New Hampshire Fisher Cats Topple Connecticut Defenders 9-6 - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MANCHESTER, NH- Despite a monster five-run inning in the second, the Defenders could muster just one more run throughout the rest of the game as they fell to the Fisher Cats, 9-6.

New Hampshire scored first as they plated two runs in bottom of the first inning on three base hits.

The Defs battled right back in the top of the second as they equaled their previous record of hits in an inning with seven. Eddy Martinez-Esteve led off with a double but was erased off the diamond on a fielder’s choice by Dave Maroul. Olmo Rosario singled, Simon Klink rapped a base hit to score Maroul as Rosario stole third. Nestor Rojas ripped a single of his own to bring home Rosario from third, MLNGirlsFeb2008_Lisa.jpg

Jake Wald knocked a single to score Klink and Travis Ishikawa capped off the rally with a two-run single to give the Defenders a 5-2 advantage.

The Fisher Cats took little time to get some of the runs back as Travis Snider and Aaron Mathews forced the game to 5-4.

A scoreless third led to another multiple run inning for the Cats. Chris Gutierrez launched his first homer of the season and David Smith and Brian Jeroloman singled in runs to give New Hampshire a 7-5 lead.

Connecticut only scored once more as a leadoff double by Jake Wald became fruitful as Wald came across on a 6-3 double play off the bat of Antoan Richardson to make it 7-6 New Hampshire.

The Fisher Cats got two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Snider drove in his third and fourth runs of the game on a two out bases loaded single to give the Cats a 9-6 lead.

The Defs couldn’t get anything going in the top of the ninth as Connecticut lost the second game of the series 9-6 to force a rubber match on Thursday evening.

Dave McKae suffered his second loss of the season, Ricky Romero won his second and Zach Dials earned his fourth save in five chances.

Olmo Rosario went 4-for-5 in the loss as he scored a run and stole his seventh base of the season.

Connecticut will play one more against the Fisher Cats Thursday evening at 6:35pm before traveling to Bowie to take on the Baysox for a three-game set over the weekend. The Defenders will return home on May 19 as they will host the Binghamton Mets at 6:35pm. Tickets are still available at ctdefenders.com or by calling the box office at (860) 887-7962.
