Kane County Cougars Blank Cedar Rapids Kernels, Jamie Richmond Hurls No-Hitter through Seven

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – GENEVA, IL. – Jamie Richmond pitched a perfect game through 5 2/3 innings Thursday night and had a no-hitter through seven en route to leading the Kane County Cougars to a 4-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 4,957 at Elfstrom Stadium. Richmond lasted eight innings, and Justin Friend worked the ninth to complete the 1-hitter, giving the Cougars eight victories in their last 11 games.

Richmond (4-2) walked Jerry Gonzalez with two outs in the sixth to end his perfection, and later two other Kernels reached on separate errors before Andrew Romine's bloop single with no outs in the eighth ended the no-hitter. Richmond settled down to end the inning and set a new career high for strikeouts with eight. He has a consecutive scoreless streak of 13 2/3 innings, and the team, which blanked the Kernels, 2-0, Wednesday night, has a consecutive scoreless streak of 20 frames going back to Tuesday.

Jonathan Johnston had a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 1-0, Shane Keough collected one in the fifth for a 2-0 score, and Carlos Arrieche and Johnston had run-scoring connections in the sixth to account for the Cougars' scoring.

The Cougars (25-12) now hit the road for an eight-game, seven-day road trip that begins Friday night at 6:35 CT against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Scott Moore (1-1, 2.50) will face Edward Paredes (2-3, 5.13).
