High Desert Mavericks Top Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 13-5 - Advanced A, California League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Rancho Cucamonga, CA-  High Desert took advantage of a couple of base hits, a double and an RBI single by Carlos Peguero, with two outs in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead against Quakes starter David Herndon.

Rancho would not let down.  After Able Nieves singled with one out,  Mark Trumbo reached on an error with two outs, and Brian Walker double to right-center to give the Quakes a 2-1 lead at the end of one inning.

The Mavericks came right on back in the second, getting a lead off double, an RBI triple by Greg Halman, and an RBI sacrifice fly by Chris Minaker to make it a 3-2 Mavs lead.

The Quakes would tie it in the bottom of the inning on PJ Phillips’ second home run of the season to tie the game 3-3.

After Herndon came out after four innings due to illness, Marco Albano came in for

the fifth and allowed two runs. After a walk, Jamie McOwen tripled to right center to score one and Leury Bonilla scored McOwen on an RBI double to go up 5-3.

Rancho would not go away and mounted a two out rally in the sixth. Back to back base hits by Wil Ortiz and Larry Infante set the stage for Phillips again, who tripled down the right field line to score both runners and tie the game 5-5. Phillips finished the game 3x4 and fell a single shy of the cycle.

The Quakes bullpen fell apart from there as a combination of Sammy Leon (4 runs), Barret Browning (2 runs), and Felipe Arredondo (2 runs) allowed eight runs in the final three innings to give the Mavericks a 13-5 win.

Rancho has now lost three games in a row, but will hand the ball to right hander Trevor Bell Saturday night against Nick Hill of the Mavericks in game two of the four game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
