Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Release Minor League Farm Report for 5-16-08

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Here’s a look at how the Angels’ farm system fared in yesterday’s action:
 

SALT LAKE BEES (Class AAA) - Pacific Coast League - Record 31-8, 1st
CF Brad Coon’s two-run single in the eighth inning snapped a 3-3 tie and gave the Salt Lake Bees a 5-3 win over the Sacramento River Cats (Oakland affiliate).  Coon finished the game with three hits.  C Bobby Wilson also added three hits, including two doubles, and 1B Kendry Morales hit a solo home run.  RHP Kasey Olenberger (3-2) went seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.   RHP Darren O’Day, in his first appearance since returning to triple-A, recorded his first triple-A save with a scoreless ninth.
ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (Class AA) - Texas League - Record 18-22, 2nd
        The Arkansas Travelers took sole possession of second place and completed a four-game series sweep with a 6-5 win over the Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis affiliate).  The Travelers scored three runs in the first inning en route to their fifth straight win (and 11th win in the last 12 home contests).  C Ben Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two home runs and four RBI.  CF Adam Greenberg added two hits, including a double, and is now hitting .409.  RHP Dan Denham (3-4) gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings (his ERA stands at 1.94 after seven games).  RHP Kevin Jepsen picked up his sixth save, pitching the final 1.1 innings.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (Class A) - California League - Record 16-25, 4th
       
        The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes managed just four hits in a 2-1 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers (Dodgers’ affiliate).  The Quakes’ lone run came on a solo home run in the ninth inning by 1B Mark Trumbo.  RHP Sean O’Sullivan (4-4) was the hard-luck loser, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings. 
CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS (Class A) - Midwest League - Record 18-21, 5th
        The Cedar Rapids Kernels were shut out for the second consecutive game in a 4-0 loss to the Kane County Cougars (Oakland affiliate).  The Kernels collected just one hit, a single to left field by SS Andrew Romine in the top of the eighth inning.  RHP Michael Davitt (1-3) got the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in 5.1 innings.  LHP Chris Armstrong and RHP Ismael Carmona combined on 2.2 scoreless relief innings.
