Salem Avalanche could not Get Rolling, Lose 11-5 to Potomac Nationals - Adv A, Carolina League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Salem, VA — The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw the Potomac Nationals score six runs in the first inning Friday night en route to an 11-5 victory on Lewis-Gale Medical Center
Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.  10 batters came to the plate
for Potomac (25-15) in the first against Salem (16-23).

The first batter of the game, Michael Martinez, doubled to left on a 3-2
pitch against lefty David Qualben.  The next batter, Matt Rogelstad dumped

a 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall for a two-run home run.  Later in the
first, with the bases loaded, Seth Bynum smashed a three-run double to
center to make the score 6-0.

Salem countered in its portion of the inning as the Avs loaded the bases
against Potomac starter Adrian Alaniz.  With two out, Jimmy Van Ostrnad
socked a 1-2 pitch into the gap in right-center to score all three runners
and split the lead in two.

Potomac, though, would score the next five runs of the game to expand the
lead to eight.  In the fourth, Rogelstad drove Martinez in again along
with Brian Peacock, this time on a single.  Then, doubles from Chris
Marrero and Martinez in the sixth and seventh, respectively pushed the
score to 10-3.  The final run came across on an Edgardo Baez single in the
eighth that chased Frank Diaz home.

For the Avs, a Jhon Florentino two-run single plated both Cesar Quintero
and newcomer Travis Sweet for the 11-5 final.  Jimmy Van Ostrand finished
the game with his fifth three-hit game of the season.
