Albuquerque Isotopes Run All Over the Omaha Royals in 11-4 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Albuquerque wasted little time marking up the scoreboard repeatedly as they scored five runs off of O-Royals starter Carlos Rosa (0-1, 15.00). Barnwell started the game with a leadoff single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Royals third baseman Jason Smith. After an Andrew Beattie ground out, Gall doubled to left to drive in Barnwell for the first run of the game. Jason Wood continued the offensive strike with a single to right field scoring Gall. Tagg Bozied followed with a double of his own to the center to advance Wood to third before McPherson drove in Wood with a line drive double to right center field, increasing the ‘Topes lead to 4-0. Hoover collected the fifth consecutive hit in the inning with his single to left field, scoring Bozied to give the Isotopes a sizable 5-0 advantage.

Omaha retaliated in the top of the second with a leadoff single by designated hitter Brian Buchanan. Smith followed with a single of his own to advance Buchanan to second before a groundout advanced the runner to third. Mike Stodolka then drove in Buchanan with a ground out to second to put the Royals on the scoreboard, 5-1.

The Isotopes regained their five-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth when George Lombard began the inning with a single to right field that set up Barnwell, who singled as well, moving Lombard to second. After a line out double play and the ejection of Royals manager Mike Jirschele, Gall continued his clutch hitting driving in Lombard with a single to right-center field, 6-1.

The ‘Topes continued to hammer Royals pitching in the sixth inning with singles by Lombard and Barnwell openening the doors for Albuquerque. Beattie plated Lombard with a slashed single to right field to stretch the Isotopes lead to 7-1. After Wood reached due to a hit by a pitch, Gall then smashed a double to left field that would score Barnwell for the Isotopes’ eighth run, advancing Beattie to third. Bozied then hit a fly ball deep enough for the fleet-footed Beattie to score from third to elongate the ‘Topes lead to eight, 9-1. McPherson followed with another sacrifice fly deep into centerfield scoring Gall to put the ‘Topes into double-digits. Albuquerque scored their final run of the night when Hoover smacked a double to left field that scored Wood for the ten run lead, 11-1.

Omaha responded in the ninth with three runs on two home runs, a lead-off solo blast and a two-run shot but Isotopes reliever Brandon Villafuerte settled down to strike out two of the final three O-Royals he faced to secure the blowout win.

Isotopes starter Chris Seddon (3-2, 4.00) pitched a solid game, working seven innings while scattering five hits and allowing just one run while striking out four. Omaha Royals starter Carlos Rosa did not have as similar of fait tonight in his Triple-A debut as he allowed five runs off of eight hits in only three innings.

The Isotopes will host an afternoon of baseball as they will complete the four-game series against the Omaha Royals, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals with a doubleheader on Sunday. Albuquerque righty Bobby Keppel (5-2, 6.42) will take the hill for the Isotopes in game one against O-Royals righty Matt Wright (0-1, 4.41). Then, in the second half of the double-dip the Isotopes will give the ball to Dallas Trahern (0-3, 9.37) will face off against former Isotope and current Royal, Jeff Fulchino (1-1, 4.07).
