Bowie Bay Sox Blake Davis Comes Up Big in Win Over Harrisburg Senators - Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - (Bowie, MD) – Blake Davis had four hits, including a homerun, and scored three runs in the Baysox 7-2 victory. The win is the Baysox team-record twelfth in a row at home. Bowie still trails Harrisburg by 1.5 games in the Southern Division.

David Hernandez earned the win for the Baysox, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks in five innings with six strikeouts. Felix Romero pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five, to earn a hold. Rommie Lewis also threw scoreless innings, allowing no hits and one walk.

Mike Rodriguez got the Baysox offense going in the first inning, drawing a leadoff walk. Rodriguez went to second on a Carlos Rojas sacrifice bunt and to third on a groundout by Lou Montanez. Jeff Nettles doubled to center to score Rodriguez and give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

Connecticut answered with a run in the top of the second. Simon Klink hit a one out double to left center field and scored on an Eddy Martinez-Esteve single to center. Jake Wald drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out but David Hernandez got Nestor Rojas to ground into an inning-ending double play.

The Baysox took the lead again in the bottom of the second. Ryan Finan hit a double off the wall down the right field line. Finan went to third on a groundout by Kennard Jones and scored on a two-out single by Blake Davis.

The Defenders tied the game again with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Simon Klink drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single to left by Eddy Martinez-Esteve. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Wald. Klink scored on a ground out by Nestor Rojas before Ben Copeland struck out to end the inning.

Blake Davis put the Baysox back in front with a solo homerun with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and the Baysox never looked back. Davis led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his third hit of the game, a single to left. Mike Rodriguez followed the hit with a walk and both runners advanced on Carlos Rojas's second sacrifice bunt of the game. Lou Montanez was intentionally walked to load the bases. Jeff Nettles hit a hard groundball towards the hole between third and short, but third baseman Dave Maroul made a great diving stop and threw to second for a force out. Montanez was out at second and Davis scored on the play. Now with runners on the corners and two outs, Nolan Reimold hit a bloop down the right field line for a double, scoring Rodriguez. Ryan Finan grounded out to second to end the inning with the Baysox leading 5-2.

Brian Valichka hit a one-out solo homerun to left in the seventh inning for his first hit as a member of the Baysox. Blake Davis followed the homer with his fourth hit of the game, a single to right. Davis went to second on a passed ball and scored the Baysox final run on a Carlos Rojas double.
