Great Lakes Loons Nip Dayton Dragons 4-3 - Advanced A, Midwest League
Monday, May 19, 2008 at 11:29AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Dayton, Ohio—Erik Kanaby’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and the Great Lakes Loons went on to a 4-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 9,329 that was the largest of the year and only 60 fans short of the all-time Fifth Third Field record.
The loss was the Dragons’ sixth straight and dropped them into second place in the Midwest League’s Eastern Division, one game back of West Michigan.
After Great Lakes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Dragons got on the board in the bottom half of the frame when Brandon Waring singled to right, went to second on Logan Parker’s single, and scored on Denis Phipps’ double to make it 2-1.

ADVERTISEMENT The Dragons tied the game in the sixth when Waring homered to left field, his team-leading ninth of the season, to make it 2-2.
In the Great Lakes seventh, Justin Fuller led off with a double against Dragons starting pitcher Enerio Del Rosario (2-2). Pedro Baez bunted in front of the plate and Del Rosario fielded the bunt but threw late to third. After Kenley Jansen struck for the first out of the inning, Philippe Valiquette replaced Del Rosario. Kanaby lined a shot to center that Justin Reed caught with a sliding grab as Fuller tagged and scored to give Great Lakes a 3-2 lead.
Andrew Lambo homered against Valiquette in the eighth inning to extend the Great Lakes lead to 4-2.
Justin Reed led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run for Dayton, his fourth of the year, to make it 4-3. With two outs in the Dayton eighth, Waring lined a single to left, but Great Lakes reliever Miguel Ramirez got Logan Parker to ground out to first to end the inning, and Ramirez pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the year.
Del Rosario suffered the loss, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) over six and one-third innings while walking two and striking out three.
The Dragons collected seven hits. Waring went 3 for 4 with the solo home run.
The Dragons host the Lansing Lugnuts in the start of a four game series on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Matt Klinker (2-2, 4.11) will start for Dayton.
