Reading Phillies Trample Akron Aeros 14-1 - AA, Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Reading, PA - Greg Golson knocked in five runs on a 5-for-6 effort, Lou Marson clouted a grand slam and knocked in six runs, and Antonio Bastardo pitched six solid innings Sunday in the Phillies' 14-1 rout of the Akron Aeros.

Five other Phillies had two hits apiece and Joey Hammond was on base four times.

Golson's five hits jacked his batting average to .331, which puts him among the Eastern League leaders. Marson is batting .325 and was 10th in the league at gametime.

The Phillies (19-22) scored a run in the first on Marson's RBI single, but they also left the bases loaded for the third time in two games.

They responded, however, in a bat-around second, when they put up five runs. Luke Appert started the feast on Aeros pitching with a leadoff home run, his first as a Phillie. Golson scored a pair with a single up the middle, Marson singled in his second run, and he came around on Hammond 's double off the wall in left.

The binge was just starting, especially for Marson, who will remember his first homer as an R-Phil -- a grand slam to straightaway center that highlighted a five-run third. At that point the Phillies had banged out 14 hits; their total of 20 hits were a season high and the most allowed this year by the Aeros. The 14 runs were also a season high.

Golson added a three-run homer in the ninth, his fifth of the season.

Bastardo (2-0) allowed a run and three hits over six solid innings, with five strikeouts and three walks.

Frank Herrmann (4-3) took the loss; the Aeros fell to 18-21.
