Bowie Baysox Defeat Portland Sea Dogs 3-1 and Sweep Three Game Series - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Bowie, MD – Baysox closer Julio Manon recorded his third save in as many days when the Baysox beat the Sea Dogs 3-1 to sweep a three game series on Thursday.  The win made the Baysox 14-12 and moved them into a second place tie with Erie.

The Baysox took the lead in the first inning when Carlos Rojas scored on a Lou Montanez double.  The Sea Dogs answered in the third inning when Mickey Hall led off with a homerun to left field.  It was the first run Brad Bergesen has allowed as a member of the Baysox.

Bergesen picked up where he left off after his last start when he threw seven shutout innings in his AA debut against New Hampshire.  Bergesen allowed just one run over eight innings of work Thursday, on the solo homerun by Hall.  Bergesen allowed six hits and a walk, and struck out one batter.  The Baysox defense played well behind Bergesen, turning four double plays in the game.

The Baysox scored two more runs in the fourth inning.  Jeff Nettles led off with a double to left center field and moved to third on a Ben Davis groundout.  Nolan Reimold hit a double down the right field line to drive in Nettles and give the Baysox the lead.  After Ryan Finan flew out to left field, Kennard Jones and Blake Davis drew walks to load the bases with two outs.  Sebastien Boucher hit a groundball up the middle that was fielded by shortstop Iggy Suarez.  Boucher beat Suarez's throw to first for an infield single and Reimold scored on the play, but Kennard Jones attempted to score from second and was thrown out at home.

Julio Manon came into the game in the ninth with a 3-1 lead and retired the three Sea Dogs he faced in order.  Manon pitched in all three games of the series, and retired all nine batters he faced while recording three saves.

The Baysox will open a four game series at home against the Akron Aeros on Friday, opening with a doubleheader on Funky Feet Night.  The first game will begin at 6:05 and is the completion of a game suspended on April 20.  The game will resume in the third inning with Akron leading 5-1, and will be played to nine innings.  The second game will begin 30 minutes after the completion of the first game and will be a 7 inning game.

The Bowie Baysox are in their 16th season as the “AA” affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Baysox individual game tickets, season ticket plans, group outings, picnics and birthday parties are currently available for booking by calling the Baysox front office at (301) 464-4880.
