Connecticut Defenders Edge Trenton Thunder 5-4 - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Norwich, CT - Connecticut LF Carlos Sosa had 4 RBI including the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th inning as Connecticut defeated Trenton in the rubber game of the three-game series 5-4 on Thursday night at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT.

With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Connecticut RF Ben Copeland led off with a double against Trenton starting pitcher Dan McCutchen (3-2). After a ground-out, Sosa delivered an RBI single to center field scoring the go-ahead run from second base to make it 5-4. McCutchen took the loss for the Thunder going 7 IP.  He gave up a season-high 10 H and 5 ER.  McCutchen struck out 8 and walked 1.  The Connecticut bullpen was able to protect the 5-4 lead. Connecticut reliever Steve Palazzolo (2-0) pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and RHP Sergio Romo pitched the 9th inning for his 8th save of the season, and second in consecutive nights against Trenton. With the tying run at first base and one out in the 9th, SS Ramiro Pena lined into a game-ending double-play.

Down 4-3 entering the 7th, Trenton (16-12) tied the game at 4-4 on an RBI single by CF Austin Jackson off of Palazzolo.  Trenton plated singled runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to take a 3-2 lead, after scoring in the 5th .  The Thunder took advantage of a season-high 5 Connecticut errors to score unearned runs against Connecticut starting pitcher Adam Cowart in the 4th and 5th innings.  Cowart went 6 IP and gave up 3 H and 3 R (1 earned).  Trenton 3B Chris Malec scored 3 runs in the loss.   Down 3-2 in the 5th inning, Sosa hit a two-run home run off of McCutchen.  Sosa finished with 3 hits to go along with his 4 RBI.
