Portland Beavers Edge Oklahoma RedHawks 5-4 - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PORTLAND, Ore. – Marshall McDougall drove in three runs and lifted the Portland Beavers to a 5-4 victory over the Oklahoma RedHawks with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right in the 10th inning Thursday night at PGE Park .

Earlier, McDougall’s two-run double with two outs in the sixth tied the game at 4-4.

Reliever Jared Wells (1-0) worked the final two innings for the Beavers (11-14) to get the win. Yukinaga Maeda (1-1) loaded the bases with no outs and gave up McDougall’s decisive fly ball in the 10th for the loss.

The win gave the Beavers a 3-1 series victory over Oklahoma .

John Mayberry homered, doubled and drove in two runs, and Nate Gold hit his sixth home run to lead the RedHawks (18-10).

Gold clubbed a first-pitch home run – his second of the series – off Enrique Gonzalez with Jason Ellison on base in the first inning to give the RedHawks the early lead.

Mayberry’s double down the left field line scored Ryan Roberts from first base in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Chip Ambres’ liner to right fielder Nelson Cruz was just deep enough to score Jody Gerut, who doubled to lead off the inning. Will Venable then drove in Chase Headley with a single to right-center to whittle the RedHawks’ advantage to 3-2.

Mayberry’s first Triple-A homer upped Oklahoma ’s lead to 4-2 in the sixth.

NOTES: On Thursday, the Beavers released pitcher Mike Megrew and announced that outfielder Peter Ciofrone was transferred to Portland from Class AA San Antonio …  it was the first extra-inning game of the season for Portland … Portland Trail Blazers center Channing Frye threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
