Portland Sea Dogs Defeat New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9-5 - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –  Manchester, NH - Aaron Bates and Bubba Bell each drove in 2 runs with two outs in the 9th inning, snapping a 5-5 tie and giving Portland a 9-5 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Sean Stidfole (0-1) issued three walks before Bates lined a 3-1 pitch down the left-field line for a 2-run double. Bell followed with a 2-run single off the glove of the second baseman.
Portland scored 5 runs with two outs and improved to 6-2 on their 9-game roadtrip. The 'Dogs have won all three series on the trip and beat New Hampshire for the sixth time in nine tries.
Daniel Bard (1-0) earned his first Double-A win despite yielding the tying run on a solo homer by Jacob Butler in the eighth. Bard fanned three over two innings and walked one.

Bates went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, including a solo-homer in the sixth inning to tie the game at four. The Portland first baseman homered for the third time and improved his team-leading RBI total to 32 (22 have come in May).
Bell, who missed nine games with a leg injury, picked up his first 4-hit game in Double-A (4-for-5). Mark Wagner blasted a 3-run homer in the fourth inning to give Portland a 3-0 lead. Portland's middle part (Bates, Bell and Wagner) of the order went a combined 7-for-14, 2 HR and 8 RBI.
New Hampshire received solo homers by Travis Snider and David Smith in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. Matt Goodson, who was activated from the disabled list before the game, allowed four runs on six hits over 4 and 1/3 innings.
Brett Cecil yielded three runs (Wagner homer) on four hits in just 3 and 2/3 innings for the Fisher Cats.
Portland took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning on Ryan Khoury's 2-out RBI double. The Sea Dogs have scored 24 two-out runs on the roadtrip and 94 on the season.
Daniel Haigwood pitched one and 2/3 innings in relief of Goodson, allowing the go-ahead run to score in the fifth inning on Snider's sacrifice fly. Haigwood didn't allow a run on one hit and one strikeout.
The Sea Dogs look for the 3-game sweep of the Fisher Cats on Thursday morning at Merchantsauto.com Stadium when the two teams meet at 11:05 AM. LHP Dustin Richardson (3-3, 4.83) will face LHP A.J. Wideman (1-6, 7.06).
