Beavers Trip Up Sidewinders 6-4 - Box Score - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Tucson - 4  Portland -6  Box Score attached. - PORTLAND, Ore. – Wade LeBlanc won for the first time in his last six starts and Chip Ambres was 3-for-4 and scored the go-ahead run as the Portland Beavers held on to defeat the Tucson Sidewinders 6-4 Thursday night at PGE Park.

Nick Hundley hit his first home run in over a month and Peter Ciofrone homered for the fourth time in his last 10 games for the Beavers, who have won three straight, six of their last eight overall and are 13-3 in their last 16 home games.

LeBlanc (3-4) retired the first 11 batters and faced three batters over the minimum over the first five innings before spotting the Sidewinders four runs in the sixth. A solo homer by Tim Raines Jr. and a go-ahead, two-run shot by Wilkin Castillo highlighted the four-run top of the sixth as the Sidewinders reversed a three-run deficit to take a brief 4-3 lead.

The Beavers (23-22) loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth on singles by Brian Myrow, Ambres and Hundley, setting them up to take a 5-4 lead on Matt Antonelli’s RBI groundout and a wild pitch that allowed Ambres to score the go-ahead run.

LeBlanc struck out five and allowed four runs and five hits in six innings to snap a personal four-game skid and get his first win since April 18.

Adam Bass hit the first two batters he faced and eventually loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth, but Myrow made a diving catch at first base and tagged the bag for a game-ending double play. Bass held on for the save in place of regular closer Jared Wells, who was recalled by San Diego before the game.

Craig Stansberry singled and scored from third on a Chase Headley’s force out to pad the lead in the seventh.

Yusmeiro Petit allowed five runs and nine hits and struck out seven in the loss for Tucson (16-32).

Ambres led off the bottom of the second with a standup triple and scored one batter later when Will Venable lifted a sac fly to deep center. Hundley kept things going, following with a solo homer, his fifth of the year and his first since April 18. Ciofrone added to the early lead with his solo homer to left field in the third.

The Beavers open a four-game series at Salt Lake Friday night at 5:35 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: The Beavers announced several roster moves before the game. The Padres recalled Wells and pitcher Josh Banks, purchased the contract of pitcher Mike Adams and optioned pitcher Joe Thatcher to Portland … catcher Michael Barrett was removed from the Portland portion of his major league rehabilitation assignment on Thursday … the Beavers’ next homestand is May 27-June 3 … the Beavers were 6-2 on their homestand.
