MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Manchester, NH - Travis Snider (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R) doubled as part of a four-run first inning and hit homers in the sixth and eighth innings as the Fisher Cats beat Portland 7-3 Thursday afternoon before a crowd of 7,956, the third-largest ever to see a game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
New Hampshire (15-29) scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Mathews (2-for-4, R) led off against losing pitcher Dustin Richardson (3-4) with a single. David Smith (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) followed with his third home run. After Jacob Butler singled, Snider doubled him home. Ryan Klosterman then added an RBI single as the Fisher Cats opened a 4-0 lead.
Portland (27-18) closed to within 4-3 by the top of the third inning against winning pitcher A.J. Wideman (2-6). Andrew Pinckney and Ryan Khoury had sacrifice flies in the second inning. Aaron Bates doubled home Jeff Corsaletti in the Sea Dogs third inning.
Wideman (2-6) worked 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs. He walked five and struck out four.
The Fisher Cats added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Snider homered off Kyle Jackson to make it 5-3.
New Hampshire catcher Brian Jeroloman doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and went to third on a single by Aaron Mathews. Scott Campbell grounded into a double play, but Jeroloman scored to make it 6-3.
Snider again homered off Jackson in the last of the eighth inning for a 7-3 lead.
Fisher Cats relief pitchers Seth Overbey, Daryl Harang and Zach Dials combined to toss 3.1 innings of shutout relief, allowing Portland only one hit.
