A sacrifice-fly from Matt Spencer in the Thresher first began the runs fest on Friday afternoon. The Miracle bounced back with a pair of tallies in the second before their biggest inning of the day, a seven-run third, put them up 9-1 on Clearwater . Eight of the Miracle 17 hits came in the third inning alone as Danny Valencia and Danny Berg each picked up two-run doubles, Edward Ovalle spanked a RBI-triple, Wilson Ramos snagged a run-scoring single to right while Yancarlos Ortiz capped off the frame with an RBI-double to center.
Clearwater picked up the pace with their doubles on the day with a pair of them in the fourth cutting the deficit to 9-4. John Urick capitalized with his RBI-double to center while Welinson Baez connected on his two-base hit plating two more. Ovalle , who finished a double shy of the cycle, connected on a solo home run in the Miracle fifth sending the lead back to a half-dozen.
A five-run fifth inning quickly brought the Threshers to within one as Gus Milner’s RBI-single to right, Tuffy Gosewisch’s two-run single and Baez’s second two-run double of the day reduced the Miracle advantage to 10-9. After a Urick groundout evened things up in the sixth, a bases-loaded walk by Whit Robbins would bring in Portes from third with the eventual game-deciding run.
Ovalle led all hitters on the day with a 4-for-5 afternoon. Ramos and Milner each registered three hits respectively, while eight other Miracle and Threshers had at-least two hits on the day. The 17 Miracle hits on the afternoon also eclipse the season-high of 16 set last night against Clearwater .
