Frederick Keys Fall to Potomac Nationals 6-4 - Advanced A, Carolina League
Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 08:59AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Woodbridge, VA - The Frederick Keys knocked Potomac's starting pitcher Jhonny Nunez after two innings but failed to deliver the knockout blow. That came from the Nationals in their five-run sixth inning as 1B Chris Marrero's three-run home run tied it and SS Seth Bynum's two-run home run put Potomac up for good as the Keys fell 6-4.
The loss was Frederick's third consecutive since sweeping a doubleheader from Wilmington on Tuesday night. The Keys are now 4.5 games in back of Potomac, their largest deficit in the young Carolina League season.
Frederick led early on back-to-back RBI doubles from 3B Billy Rowell and DH Chris Vinyard to lead 2-1 in the second inning. The Keys would score a run on three hits in the third inning led off by C Matt Wieters. Wieters broke out of a slump, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the loss.
The Keys led 4-1 when the Nationals scored five runs via the long ball in the sixth inning. RHP JP Martinez kept the Keys in the game with 2 and 1/3 perfect innings out of the pen.
