Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 03:25PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After sweeping a three-game road trip at Lancaster, the Quakes (10-19) returned home to face the Jethawks at the Epicenter on Friday night with hopes of keeping their winning streak going. Instead, Lancaster (12-17) cruised to an easy 9-3 victory in the first game of the three-game weekend series.
JetHawks’ batters got on base at will against Quakes pitching, pounding out 16 hits and giving Lancaster starter Adam Mills (3-2) more than enough offensive support to get the win. Quakes starter Tommy Mendoza (1-3) gave up six runs on nine hits in three innings. Eight of nine Lancaster batters had hits. Jorge Jimenez went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Josh Reddick also went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Lancaster got two runs in the first inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by Jimenez and an RBI single by Reddick. The JetHawks followed that up with two runs in the top of the second on an RBI double by Jason Place and an RBI groundout by Jimenez. Place went 3-for-6 with an RBI and was a home run short of hitting for the cycle.
ADVERTISEMENT Down 6-0 the Quakes answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth on solo home runs to right field by catcher Brian Walker and left fielder Anthony Norman, but Lancaster quickly answered back.
With a 6-2 lead the JetHawks added a run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead which they would hold until Rancho scored in the bottom of the eighth. Rancho had runners in scoring position with less then two outs in four other innings, but could not push the runs across.
Lancaster added two more runs in the top of the ninth bringing the score to 9-3. Rancho could not rally in the bottom of the ninth inning against Richie Lentz as he struck out the side to close out the game for Lancaster.
