Arkansas Travelers Get Some Road Mojo and Beat Springfield Cardinals Easily 10-4 - AA, Texas League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Hammons Field, Springfield, MO - Coming in to Saturday's game at Springfield, the Travs had lost seven of eight road games including six in a row.  Four home runs turned things around on the road however, as the Travs cruised to a 10-4 victory over the Springfield Cardinals.  3B Adam Morrissey banged two home runs (2), while DH Ben Johnson (5) and C Tim Duff (1) each hit one dinger.

Each starter collected at least one base hit as the Travs recorded a season-high 17 hits.  They also turned five double plays to set a new season high.

RHP Anthony Ortega (3-2) earned the win finishing six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks with one strikeout.  Ortega started two double plays on comebackers.

The Travs got things going in the second inning as LF Cliff Remole hit a one-out triple into the right-field corner.  Morrissey, who finished 3-for-4, walked to put runners at the corners.  RF Jordan Czarniecki swung at a 3-0 pitch and bounced a single to left chasing in Remole.  Nate Sutton also delivered an RBI single to put the Travs up 2-0.

Springfield C Brandon Yarbrough hit a leadoff double in the second inning, then Ortega hit Luke Gorsett to put two runners on base with no outs.  But Mark Shorey bounced to the mound and Ortega started the first twin-killing of the game.  The Cards managed a run when 1B Mike Collins misplayed Tyler Greene's ground ball.

Springfield RHP Clayton Mortensen issued a leadoff walk to Hainley Statia in the third and Johnson yanked a two-run homer to right field for a 4-1 lead.

Ortega began the fourth inning with two walks, then Shorey got the Cardinals within a run with a two-run double to left-center.  Ortega battled back however and left the tying run at third.

Johnson led off the fifth with a single and Morrissey pounded his first home run to right field to push the Travs to a 6-3 lead.

Morrissey's next at bat ended the same way, with a shot over the centerfield batter's eye for a 7-3 lead.

The Travs tallied two runs on five base hits against RHP Josh Dew in the eighth inning, with RBI singles by Collins and Johnson for a 9-3 lead.

After Springfield scored their last run in the eighth against RHP Jeff Kennard, Duff led off the ninth inning with a dong over the left field wall to cap the scoring.

Time of game was 3:05 and the paid attendance was 6,859.
