New Britain Rock Cats Defeat New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-5 - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – New Britain, CT – Dustin Martin’s bases loaded single into right field with two out in the bottom of the 9th inning gave the Rock Cats a thrilling 6-5 come-from-behind victory over New Hampshire Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. The win enabled the surging Rock Cats to sweep the 3-game series and extend their current winning streak to six games.

The Rock Cats wasted no time in taking the lead as they scored 3 runs on 5 hits in the game’s 1st inning. The early uprising included a lead-off single by Luke Hughes, the League’s leading hitter, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games. He soon scored the game’s first run on Brock Peterson’s RBI single up the middle.

The New Hampshire starter, LHP Ricky Romero, quickly settled down and did not allow the Rock Cats another hit until New Britain’s Trevor Plouffe hit the first pitch of the 7th inning over the left-field fence. Plouffe’s blast cut the Fisher Cats’ lead to 5-4.

New Hampshire 2B Scott Campbell had an outstanding afternoon both at the plate (3-hits, 2 RBI) and in the field, where he made two spectacular plays. He raised his BA to .373.

The Rock Cats began the winning rally with a double by New Britain’s DH, Matt Moses. Plouffe then collected his third hit of the day with a bunt perfectly placed between the pitcher and third baseman. Moses then scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 5. Three batters later, Martin singled, sending Plouffe home with the winning run.

RHP Danny Graves came out of the bullpen to record his second win of the week for New Britain. Zach Dials (0-1) took the loss for New Hampshire. Anthony Hatch hit his 3rd HR of the season for New Hampshire in the 3rd inning off New Britain’s starter, Oswaldo Sosa.
