Gac, the 23rd round pick by the Rangers in 2003, has been the talk of the Midwest League so far this year. For the month of April, the 22-year-old hit .395 (34-for-86) with six doubles and a league-high nine home runs and 24 RBI. Included in his huge first month was a 12-game hitting streak from April 12 through the 26 and a Midwest League Player of the Week award on April 20.
Gomez, signed by the Rangers in June of 2006, wasn’t even originally slated to be a starter this season. Stepping in as a spot-starter due to early weather postponements, the Dominican native was impressive, going 1-0 in two outings. He then moved into the rotation on April 20 and won three consecutive decisions. The span also included a 25-inning scoreless streak, which finally came to an end in his last start on April 30. Gomez finished the month at 4-0 with a sparkling 1.55 ERA, walking just two while striking out 23 in 29.0 innings. His four wins are currently tied for second in the league, while his ERA is the fifth-lowest.
