Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 10:34AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Dayton , Ohio - Justin Reed drilled a home run, double, and two singles while Curtis Partch allowed only one unearned run over six strong innings as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-2 on Monday night.
Brandon Waring also connected on a three-run home run and drove in four runs for the Dragons, who have won seven of their last nine games and are five games above the .500 mark for the first time this season at 17-12. They are in second place in the Midwest League’s Eastern Division, one game behind West Michigan.
Quad Cities scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a brief lead before the Dragons answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. After the club loaded the bases with no one out, Waring was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Denis Phipps followed with a two-run double. Jason Bour added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 4-1.
Reed led off the second with a home run to right field, his second long ball of the season. His first homer came Sunday afternoon and accounted for the only runs of the game in the Dragons win over Burlington.
Reed led off the Dragons fourth with a bunt single. Two batters later, Todd Frazier walked with two outs and Waring followed with a home run to center field, his team-leading eighth of the season, to make it 8-1.
Reed started another Dragons rally in the sixth with a lead-off double and scored on Keltavious Jones’ single to left to make it 9-1. Quad Cities scored in the eighth to account for the final margin.
