Jody Gerut of Portland Beavers Named Pacific Coast League Batter of the Week; Runelvys Hernandez of Round Rock Express Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors
Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 09:41AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Pacific Coast League today announced Portland outfielder Jody Gerut has been named its batter of the week, while Round Rock pitcher Runelvys Hernandez earned pitcher of the week honors, for the week ending May 4.
Gerut received the award after hitting .462 (12-for-26) with four home runs, seven RBI and 13 runs scored. The Elmhurst, Illinois native is healthy after missing the last two seasons due to injuries. Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the second round of the 1998 draft, Gerut is in his first season with the San Diego Padres organization and currently hitting .326 with five home runs and 16 RBI for the season.
Hernandez started two games for the Express and went 1-0 with 0.00 ERA in twelve innings for the week. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic scattered six hits and struck out seven and walked four. Originally signed as a free-agent in 1998 by the Kansas City Royals, Hernandez is in his first season with the Houston Astros organization.
