Wilmington Blue Rocks Roll Past Salem Avalanche 6-4 - Adv A, Carolina League
MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Wilmington, DE — The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, led 3-0 Monday night at Frawley Stadium but saw Wilmington scored six of the final seven runs to grab a 6-4 win. Wilmington plated
four runs in the fourth inning for the win which placed each team’s record at 13-17.
After 1-2-3 first innings for each team, Salem attacked first. Mark Ori
singled against starter Jason Godin and Koby Clemens walked. After Jimmy
Van Ostrand’s hit to load the bases, Nick Moresi punched a single to
center for his first Salem RBI. The next batter, Cesar Quintero, scored
Clemens with a groundout from short to second. Greg Buchanan ended the
inning with a flyout double play on which Van Ostrand scored before the
final out.
From there, Wilmington began to erode the lead. A passed ball on strike
three to Josh Johnson in the second scored the first run. In the fourth,
a walk to Jeff Howell preceded a David Qualben wild pitch to put the
catcher at second. Wilver Perez drove Howell home with a single to snip
the lead to one.
In the fifth, the Rocks opened with a walk to Jarrod Dyson and Derrick
Robinson, After a passed ball and popout, Kurt Mertins singled both
runners home for a 4-3 lead. An error by Jordan Parraz on the play left
Mertins at second. He then raced for third with Joe Dickerson at the
plate. Koby Clemens’ bid to third ricocheted into left field and scored
the run. Later, Jeff Howell reached on the third error of the inning and
came home on a double off the bat of Miguel Vega.
Salem’s final tally touched home in the eighth when Cesar Quintero
sacrificed Mark Ori home. Tyler Chambliss buttoned the game up with the
final five outs for his fifth save in six chances.
