Binghamton Mets Need 12 Innings to Secure 2-1 Victory Over the Reading Phillies
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 04:19PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Caleb Stewart led off the 12th inning with a home run for the Binghamton Mets, who beat the Reading Phillies 2-1 at FirstEnergy Stadium Tuesday. The victory snaps Binghamton’s skid at three games.
Binghamton (12-20) went ahead in the sixth when Nick Evans hit a two-out, solo homer off starter Andrew Carpenter to make it 1-0 B-Mets. However, Reading’s (15-16) Neil Sellers chased Binghamton starter Jose Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth by doubling in Lou Marson from first with the tying run. Sanchez struck out three and allowed six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
The score remained tied until the top of the 12th when Stewart lined a homer over the leftfield fence off Jason Kershner (1-1).
Eddie Camacho, Eddie Kunz, German Marte and Eude Brito combined for 6 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Brito (1-1) retired all four he faced to earn the win.
Wednesday, the B-Mets play the third game of a four-game series against the Reading Phillies. Bobby Parnell (1-2, 6.21) will start for Binghamton against lefty Shane Youman (0-0, 9.22) of Reading. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: REA had baserunners in every inning but the 12th, leaving 16 men on base…Sanchez is the second B-Mets starting pitcher in the last seven games to work at least five innings (Parnell, Fri. @ CON)…the B-Mets walked a season-high-tying 10 (also 4/10 @ ERI)…Brito turned in his first scoreless outing in six appearances with Binghamton.
