Chattanooga Lookouts Hold Tennessee Smokies to Two Hits in 5-2 Win
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 08:40AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Ramon Ramirez combined with Carlos Fisher and Josh RoenickE to two-hit the Tennessee Smokies in a 5-2 finish at AT&T Field on Tuesday night.
The Lookouts got off to a hot start by taking the early lead on a Jerry Gil two-run blast over the AT&T Field scoreboard in the first inning.
The Lookouts added another run in the third. With one out, Cody Strait hit a single to begin the rally. A Michael Griffin double advanced Strait to third. Eric Eymann followed with a one-hopper to Smokies starting pitcher Donnie Veal (2-1), who promptly chased down a running Cody Strait. With runners on the corners, Veal made a wild throw on a pick-off attempt to first. The errant throw allowed both runners to advance, giving the Lookouts 3-0 edge.
The Lookouts offense kept rolling in the fourth, when a B.J. Szymanksi two-run shot extended the lead to 5-0.
Lookouts starting pitcher Ramon Ramirez (2-1) remained unscathed until the fifth inning, when he relinquished his first hit, walk, and run of the game.
Two walks to begin the inning did not auger well for the righty, and a subsequent single from Steve Clevenger loaded the bases. Ramirez’s hit Chris Robinson to 
ADVERTISEMENT perpetuate his control issues during the inning. After a Robinson Chirinos sac fly to centerfield, Ryan Harvey grounded into a double play to end the Smokies’ threat.
Ramirez ended the evening with eight strikeouts over six innings in his one-hit performance.
Josh Roenicke pitched a perfect ninth to notch his sixth save of the season.
