Daytona Cubs Pummel Fort Myers Miracle 9-1 - Advanced A, Florida State League
Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 08:11PM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - FORT MYERS, Fla. – A nice pitcher’s duel on Monday night quickly turned sour on the Fort Myers Miracle as the Daytona Cubs put seven runs on the board in the final two innings cruising to a 9-1 victory at Hammond Stadium. For the sixth-straight night, and second-overall against the Miracle, the Cubs put up double digit hits smacking 14 of them around in the win.
An RBI infield-single by the Cubs Jim Adduci and sacrifice-fly by Miracle shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz in the third inning put both teams on the board at 1-1. After a lead-off single by Blake Lalli in the Daytona fourth, the Cubs would take their final lead for good with an RBI-triple from Russ Canzler just two hitters later.
The pitcher’s duel for the Miracle went south in a four-run, six-hit top of the eighth for Daytona. Run scoring base hits by Ty Wright and Yusef Carter off of 
ADVERTISEMENT Miracle reliever Zach Day started things off before Josh Lansford’s two-run double to left opened things up at 6-1. Danny Hernandez would try his luck against the Cubs in the ninth, only to allow three walks, a wild pitch, RBI-double to Lalli and sac-fly to Welington Castillo closing things out.
Both starters on Monday night were stellar in their sixth starts of the season. Cub right-hander Esmailin Caridad picked up the win tossing 6.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits. Miracle tough-luck loser Cole Devries went seven frames, allowing two runs on seven hits in the loss.
The Miracle will look for the series split in the final game of the four-game series on Tuesday night. RHP Jeff Manship (4-0, 3.27) will face off against RHP Jose Ceda (2-1, 5.48) of the Cubs.
