Wilmington Blue Rocks Outlast the Salem Avalanche 3-1 in 11 Innings

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Wilmington, DE—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the
Houston Astros, got a superb pitching performance from Polin Trinidad
Tuesday night but could not outlast Wilmington in 11 innings as the Blue
Rocks toppled the Avalanche 3-1.  Joe Dickerson’s home run, his third of
the season, sunk the Avs (13-18) in favor of the Blue Rocks (14-17).

Trinidad tied a career high with his seven-inning outing and surrendered
no runs while walking one and striking out six.  Salem staked him to a 1-0
lead in the sixth as Jhon Florentino singled Greg Buchanan home.  Buchanan
previously walked against starter Blake Wood.
In the eighth, Josh Appell relieved Trinidad and walked the leadoff man,
Josh Johnson, on a 3-2 pitch.  After a sacrifice bunt by Jarrod Dyson and
a wild pitch combined to place Johnson at third, Derrick Robinson singled
the run home for the tie.
Each team nearly scored the second run of the ball game but was thwarted
SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest by the left fielder.  In the ninth, Mark Ori singled to left with Jordan
Parraz at second base.  As Parraz came to the plate, Jarrod Dyson’s throw
from left field cut the Salem center fielder down.
In the tenth, with one out and two in scoring position, Derrick Robinson
flied to shallow left where Cesar Quintero was waiting.  His throw and the
subsequent sprawling tag by Kevin Carkeek choked the run off at home to
hold the score at one.
The Avs are now 2-3 in extra inning games this season and have split a
pair of bonus baseball games with the Blue Rocks.
Game three of the set is scheduled for 6:35 Wednesday as Salem’s Casey
Hudspeth faces Wilmington pitcher Mario Santiago.
