Colorado Springs Sky Sox Stop Round Rock Express in their Tracks in 10-1 Thumping

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Ian Stewart busted out of his mini slump in a big way to lead Colorado Springs over Round Rock, 10-1 Wednesday afternoon at Security Service Field in front of 6,563 fans.

Stewart, who saw his batting average drop from .313 to .236 on the recent road trip through Nashville and Memphis, broke through with two home runs and six RBI against Round Rock starting pitcher Chad Reineke. Stewart became the first Sky Sox hitter to drive in six or more runs since Jeff Salazar did the job on June 25, 2006.

Cory Sullivan, Juan Castro and Seth Smith Sox took the lead from Stewart, as the top four spots in the lineup hit a combined 6-for-14 with three home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs. Smith’s solo home run in the first inning started the scoring for Colorado Springs, and the team never looked back, to the delight of the thousands of fans on Math Day at the ballpark.

Sky Sox starting pitcher Greg Reynolds allowed two hits and no runs in his two innings of work before Valerio De Los Santos threw five more innings of one-run baseball. De Los Santos (3-2) struck out four batters while allowing just one walk.

The Sky Sox and Express continue their four-game set tomorrow morning at Security Service Field with another 10:35 start time. John Koronka (2-0, 4.97) will take the hill for the Sky Sox opposite Fernando Nieve (1-3, 5.84).
