Down on the Farm: How the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Minor Leagues Fared on May 7, 2008

The Salt Lake Bees’ 10-game home win streak was snapped with a 9-7 loss in 12 innings to the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee affiliate).  RHP Jose Arredondo (1-1) gave up a two-run home run in the 12th, his second inning of work, for the loss.  Trailing 7-5, the Bees tied the game in the eight on a two-run homer by SS Gary Patchett.  1B Kendry Morales went 4-for-6 with three doubles and three RBI.  RHP Nick Green started and lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.


ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (Class AA) - Texas League - Record 12-20, 3rd
        The Arkansas Travelers fell behind 7-2 after four innings and, despite rallying back, lost 7-6 to the Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis affiliate).  RHP Fernando Rodriguez (1-4) started and gave up seven runs on 10 hits in four innings.  LHP Doug Brandt came in and pitched four scoreless relief innings, giving up one hit and no walks with four strikeouts.  3B Corey Smith had two hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (Class A) - California League - Record 12-20, 4th
       
SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest         The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes’ day off proved beneficial as the Quakes pounded out 12 hits en route to a 9-2 win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Dodgers’ affiliate).  2B Howie Kendrick, in his second rehab appearance, went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs.  CF Peter Bourjos had three hits, including a two-run home run, and four RBI.  C Brian Walker also homered.  RHP David Herndon (2-3) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts for the win.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS (Class A) - Midwest League - Record 16-14, 4th
        The Cedar Rapids Kernels rallied from a 3-1 deficit to post a 4-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs (Chicago Cubs’ affiliate).  The Kernels scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game and then scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on 1B Gordie Gronkowski’s sacrifice fly.  Gronkowski and 2B Jerry Gonzalez-Lopez each went 2-for-3.  LHP Trevor Reckling started and allowed three runs on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts in six innings.  RHP Jordan Towns (1-0), making his Kernels’ debut, got the win in relief, giving up one hit in two scoreless innings.  RHP Ryan Brasier picked up his seventh save with two strikeouts in the ninth.
