Portland Sea Dogs, Zach Daeges Handle the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-1
Friday, May 9, 2008 at 02:02PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (Portland, ME) - Kris Johnson (3-1) worked five scoreless innings and Zach Daeges had four hits, leading the Sea Dogs to a 5-1 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland wins three straight from New Hampshire after dropping the series opener 5-4. The Sea Dogs pick up their first series-win since taking 3 of 4 from Binghamton April 24-27.
The Sea Dogs scored two runs in the first inning and three in the eighth. Jeff Corsaletti and John Otness knocked in 2 runs apiece.
Brandon Magee (0-5) took the loss for New Hampshire, allowing six hits and two runs over 5 and 2/3 innings. The Fisher Cats scored their lone run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch by Miguel Ascencio.
Johnson worked five scoreless innings, scattering three hits, three walks and fanned four. Mike James worked 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings and Jose Vaquedano wrapped up the win with a perfect ninth.
ADVERTISEMENT Bubba Bell led off the bottom of the first inning with single and Iggy Suarez followed with a double. Corsaletti knocked in the first run with a run-scoring groundout. Daeges drove in the second run with an RBI single - his first Double-A RBI.
In the eighth inning, Corsaletti drew a bases-loaded walk and John Otness provided a 2-run single.
The Sea Dogs outscored New Hampshire 29-4 in the last three games, holding the Fisher Cats to 9 hits over that span.
On Friday night, the Sea Dogs will host the Bowie Baysox (Orioles affiliate) at Hadlock Field - game time is 6:00. LHP Dustin Richardson will make the start for Portland and RHP Chris Tillman gets the starting nod for Bowie.
