Friday, May 9, 2008 at 02:06PM Northern exposure: The next four games against
Winston-Salem will be the final intradivision games for
the Avalanche until a game with the Warthogs again on
the 30th of this month. It’s a stretch of 17 consecutive
against foes from the North.
Not a typo: The Avalanche and Warthogs engage tonight
in a baseball oddity, the one-game series. Salem
and Winston-Salem will reconvene tomorrow for the
first of three at Ernie Shore Field in the Piedmont
Triad.
Other rarities on the schedule this season include
a Lynchburg one-game set in Frederick in between
series at Potomac and Wilmington in July and a
scheduled doubleheader with Lynchburg and Myrtle
Beach in August.
Erroneous stat of the day: The Avalanche is 0-6 this
season when the opponent commits exactly one error.
Take the total to nine: Avalanche shortstop Tim Torres
doubled in his final at-bat yesterday to push his hit
streak to nine games. It’s the longest chain for a Salem
player this season. Torres has posted an eightgame
streak prior to this one in ‘08
First blank: The Avalanche was swept in Wilmington in
three games from Monday through Wednesday. It was
the first series sweep (win or loss) for the Avs in ‘08.
Counterfeit nickel: The Avalanche has dropped five
consecutive games for the first time in 2008. Salem
lost four straight three times last season, including the
fourth through seventh games of the season. The Avs
never tripped in five consecutive in ‘07.
