Rancho Cucamongo Quakes Lose 3-1 to Lake Elsinore Storm - Advanced A, California League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

Rancho Cucamonga - Amalio Diaz looked very sharp for the Quakes in his 11th start of the season. He had allowed just one hit through four innings until Brian Joynt hit is his second home run in as many days for the Storm in the 5th inning to give Lake Elsinore a 1-0 lead. Diaz wouldn’t allow another run, but just one more hit to work seven innings allowing just the run on three hits.

In the top of the 8th, Barret Browning came in for Rancho and allowed a one out walk to Javis Diaz, then Cedric Hunter doubled down the right field line to plate Diaz to make it 2-0. After a popped up bunt, Mitch Canham grounded a ball to shortstop and the throw from PJ Phillips was mishandled by first baseman Mark Trumbo allowing Hunter to score making it 3-1. Trumbo was charged with two errors on the play as he threw home to try to get Hunter, but threw wildly and allowed Canham to get to second.

Storm starter was equally impressive going 6.1 innings allowing no runs and five hits. The Quakes got their lone run in the 8th against Rolando Valdez. Rian Kiniry, who came in for the injured Peter Bourjos, tripled to lead off the inning and with one out, Wil Ortiz singled to right field to score Kiniry to make the score 3-1.

Rancho got the tying run to the plate in the ninth after an Anderson Rosario singled with two outs, Kiniry singled to second base, but Rosario tried to get to third on the play and was thrown out to end the game.
