Connecticut Defenders Blank Trenton Thunder 1-0 - AA, Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - TRENTON, NJ - Superior starting pitching was on display in Trenton on Wednesday night, as the Defenders held on, 1-0 to beat the Thunder for the second time in as many days.

Left-handed starter Paul Oseguera was effective and nearly untouchable for the Defenders during his six innings of work. Oseguera allowed no runs, scattered four hits, walked two and struck out five.

Alfredo Aceves matched Oseguera through six frames but was a little more dominant for the Thunder. Aceves struck out seven, gave up just one hit and walked none in six innings of work, but the Defs got something going in the seventh.

Ben Copeland led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Haines, moved to third on a groundout to the right side by Travis Ishikawa and crossed home when Jake Wald singled up the middle as Connecticut grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Osiris Matos took over for Oseguera in the seventh and he continued where the starter left off. Matos lasted two innings, allowed no earned runs, one base hit, no walks and fanned four.

Matos made room for Sergio Romo in the ninth as he was looking for his eleventh save in twelve tries. Romo worked quick and faced the minimum in the ninth as he induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play.
