Portland Beavers Dam Up Fresno Grizzlies 7-4 in 10th - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - FRESNO, Calif. – Vincent Sinisi and Chase Headley each hit a homerun and Brian Myrow set a new Pacific Coast League record as the Portland Beavers defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 7-4 in extra innings on Friday at Chukchansi Park .
SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest
Down by two runs in the ninth inning, Sinisi delivered a two-run, pinch-hit home run to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings. Starting with Headley’s third home run in as many games, the Beavers (33-33) exploded for three runs in the 10th inning to hand Jesse Foppert (2-1) his first loss of the season.

Myrow set a new PCL record by reaching base in his 14th consecutive plate appearance with a single to right field in the first inning. The previous record of reaching base in 13 consecutive at bats was first set by Mickey Heath in 1930. Myrow was 2-for-5 on the night to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Julio Cordido collected three hits and Brett Harper was 2-for-4, including a double, to lead Fresno (32-35) who was dealt its second straight loss.

The Beavers received five innings of perfect relief from Enrique Gonzalez, Joe Thatcher and Edwin Moreno. Thatcher (1-0) earned his first win with the Beavers in 2008, while Moreno picked up his third save on the season with a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th.

Grizzlies starter Matt Palmer struck out 10 Portland hitters, allowed just two runs and scattered six hits over six solid innings of work.

Portland starter Josh Geer gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings, but earned his fourth RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to even the score at 1-1.

The Grizzlies took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI stand up triple by Eugenio Velez. Velez then scored on a bunt single by Brian Bocock.

An RBI double by Brett Harper in the first inning and single by Ivan Ocha scored Clay Timpner to give Fresno a 2-1 in the second inning. The Beavers evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the third as Will Venable doubled home Headley who reached base on a ground rule double earlier in the inning.

NOTES: The Beavers reinstated infielder Luis Rodriguez from the disabled list on Friday. Rodriguez missed 45 games with a right hook of hamate fracture … Venable extended his hitting streak to nine games … Myrow’s hit in the first inning broke a 78-year old PCL record first set by Heath in 1930 and then matched by Derrick White in 1998 who each reached base successfully in 13 consecutive plate appearances … The game-time temperature was 100 degrees.
