Wilmington Blue Rocks Fall On Winston-Salem Warthogs, Take Win 3-1 - Adv A, Carolina League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - WILMINGTON, DE – Winston-Salem’s offensive struggles continued as Wilmington claimed a 3-1 victory over the Warthogs on Friday night at Frawley Stadium.  For the fourth consecutive game, Winston-Salem was limited to one run as Wilmington starting pitcher Marion Santiago silenced the Warthogs bats for a majority of the contest.

Santiago (5-3) worked 6 2/3 innings and held Winston-Salem to one run on three hits to earn the win.  Blue Rocks relievers Gilbert De La Vara and Tyler Chambliss did not allow a hit over the final 2 1/3 innings to preserve the victory.  Chambliss retired the side in order in the ninth to collect his 10th save of the season.

Cleveland Santeliz, making his second rehab start with Winston-Salem, surrendered three straight one-out singles in the first inning, including a run-scoring hit from Joe Dickerson to give the Blue Rocks a 1-0 lead.  Wilmington added run against newly inserted Michael Dubee in the fourth inning when Josh Johnson singled and scored on an RBI double by Jeff Howell.

The Warthogs, who were held without a hit by Santiago thru five innings, finally mustered some offense in the sixth inning.  C.J. Retherford lined a double to left field and scored on a single by Brandon Allen to cut Wilmington’s lead in half at 2-1.

The Blue Rocks tacked on a run in the eighth inning against Warthogs reliever Ricky Brooks.  Joe Dickerson reached on a single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with one out.  David Wood delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to center that scored Dickerson to give Wilmington a 3-1 advantage.

Santeliz (0-2) lasted three innings and allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts to take the loss for Winston-Salem.
