Charlotte Knights Defeat Richmond Braves in Doubleheader Sweep, 6-6 and 5-1 - International League
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 12:17PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Richmond , VA – The Charlotte Knights swept a doubleheader from the Richmond Braves Tuesday at The Diamond. The Knights took the first game 6-5 and won the nightcap 5-1 to gain a split of the six game series.
In the opener Charlotte jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Danny Richar and an RBI single by David Cook. The Braves answered with four runs in the home half. Carl Loadenthal chased a run home with a single. Jason Perry smashed a two run home run. Clint Sammons knocked in a run with a single. Charlotte tied the game in the third on a sacrifice fly by Chris Getz and an RBi single by Javier Castillo. Brent Lillibridge doubled a run home in the bottom half to put the Braves back in front 5-4. Charlotte scored twice more in the fourth to move in front to stay. Cook and Jason Bourgeois knocked in runs with singles.
Lance Broadway picked up the win. Mike MacDougal earned a save. Brian Lawrence took the loss. Cook had four hits for the Knights. Loadenthal and Mark Jurich had two hits for the Braves.
In the nightcap the Knights erupted for four runs in the fourth inning. Danny Richar doubled a run home. Fernando Cortez had an RBI single. Royce Huffman chased two home with a single. The Knights tacked on a run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Brad Eldred. Meanwhile Knights starter Clayton Richard carried a no-hitter into the fifth and a shutout into the seventh. Barbaro Canizares knocked in the Braves run with a double.
Richard went the distance, allowing only three hits for the win. James Parr took the loss. Huffman had three hits for the Knights.
