Frederick Keys Brandon Erbe One-Hits Wilmington Blue Rocks - Carolina League
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 12:27PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are sick of Keys starting pitcher Brandon Erbe. The 20-year old right-hander had the most dominant performance of his two-year Carolina League career, devastating the Blue Rocks line-up through seven shutout innings en route to a 3-1 second half opening Frederick win. Erbe struck out 12 batters and allowed just one hit, six days after no-hitting the Blue Rocks through seven innings. All-in-all Erbe went 14 innings in the two starts over six nights against Wilmington. He allowed one hit and struck out 21 Blue Rocks batters.
On Tuesday night the Keys took the lead when RF Brandon Tripp doubled over the head of Blue Rocks LF Jarrod Dyson to bring home the Keys first run in the fourth inning. Tripp would later homer in the ninth inning for an important insurance run putting the Keys up 3-0. Tripp was 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI's in the Keys win.
The fourth inning would feature a dangerous moment as Keys 1B Chris Vinyard lined a shot off the face of Blue Rocks starter Jason Godin. Godin left immediately with an ice pack on his jaw. The drive brought C Matt Wieters to the plate with the Keys second run.
But the night was all about the Owings Mills, MD product who dominated the Blue Rocks once again. The 12 strikeouts were the most by a Keys pitcher since David Hernandez set down a franchise record 18 batters on September 2nd, 2007.
