Corpus Christi Hooks Edge Tulsa Drillers 4-3 - AA, Texas League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - CORPUS CHRISTI – Eli Iorg dumped a two-run single into shallow right field in the ninth inning to lift Corpus Christi past Tulsa 4-3 Thursday night before 6,755.

The Hooks stand 2-5 in the second half of Texas League play. Tulsa is 4-2.

Corpus Christi entered the home ninth down 3-2. After Ole Sheldon drew a lead-off walk from Darren Clarke, Tulsa manager Stu Cole summoned Adam Bright from the bullpen. Val Majewski laid down a bunt and Bright threw the ball away in attempt to get pinch-runner Jarred Ball at second, prompting both runners to move up a base. Cole then called on Eduardo Valdez, whose 1-2 pitch Iorg flicked into right for the tying and winning runs.

Chris Blazek (4-1), facing the first seven hitters in Tulsa’s lineup, fanned five over two frames. Bright (3-3) suffered the loss.

Tulsa starter Alan Johnson and counterpart Chance Douglass were locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel through six. Johnson allowed two runs, six hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out one. Douglass exited after seven full innings, three runs, eight hits, a walk and a strikeout.

Tulsa played long ball in the seventh with Tony Blanco’s lead-off homer, his 13th of the season. Jeff Kindel followed with an infield single and an out later Justin Nelson homered into the right-field bullpen.

The Hooks responded immediately. Majewski, making his Whataburger Field debut, stroked a double to left-center and scored on a single up the middle by Orlando Rosales. Rosales scored from first on a Lou Santangelo double over Nelson’s head in right field. Santangelo was thrown out at third base attempting to stretch his hit into a triple.

Hooks second baseman Drew Sutton, who had a pair of doubles, extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Lefty Brian Bogusevic (1-5) faces Tulsa’s Brandon Hynick (4-5) Friday at 7:05.
