Gerardo Parra of the Mobile BayBears Announced as World Team Player for 2008 All-Star Futures Game

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – MOBILE, Ala. – Mobile BayBears outfielder Gerardo Parra has been named to the World roster for the 2008 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, July 13.

Parra, a Venezuela native, is one of top prospects in the Arizona Diamondbacks system and has hit .293 in a BayBears uniform with a homer and eight knocked in while playing a sterling center field.
Last season, Parra wrapped a .320 average for South Bend, becoming the first Silver Hawk to win the Midwest League batting title. Parra also excelled at Missoula in 2006 with a .328 mark and 43 runs batted in. Over the previous two seasons, Parra recorded 22 outfield assists.

Former BayBear Emilio Bonifacio will also take part in this year’s All-Star Futures Game. Bonifacio led the Southern League with 41 stolen bases in 2007. Last year, the BayBears had two representatives in the All-Star Futures Game in San Francisco with Justin Upton representing the U.S. squad and Carlos Gonzalez on the World team.
