Mephis Redbirds Outslug the New Orleans Zephyrs in 13-10 Win - Box Score

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis and New Orleans slugged it out for over three hours Friday night at AutoZone Park with the Redbirds finally coming out on top 13-10.
 
The Redbirds scored in each of the first six innings and led 12-5 after six innings. However, the Zephyrs rallied for four runs in the ninth to climb within a three runs and bringing the tying run to the plate. Kelvin Jimenez ended the game by getting Jesus Feliciano to ground out.
 
Joe Mather led the ‘Birds with five RBI going 3-for-4 and finishing the night a triple shy of the cycle. Memphis pounded out 18 hits with seven different players recording multi-hit games. Jarrett Hoffpauir went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Brian Barden went 3-for-6 with three runs scored. The club set a Memphis professional baseball record using eight pitchers in the game. Matt Scherer picked up the win with one inning of relief work. Starter P.J. Walters left the game after being struck by a line drive in the top of the second inning. Jimenez notched his fourth save of the season by recording the final out.
 

 

 

 

SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest Feliciano and Argenis Reyes each had three hits for the Z’s in the loss. New Orleans starter Brian Stokes took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits in four innings.
 
The Redbirds and Zephyrs play tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WMC with the first Memphis Redbirds Foundation Telethon raising money throughout the game. Right-hander Clayton Mortensen is scheduled to start for the ‘Birds against Z’s right-hander Nelson Figueroa.
