Kinston Indians Blank Frederick Keys 3-0 - Advanced A, Carolina League
Sunday, June 29, 2008 at 10:29AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Frederick - The Kinston Indians won a rain-shortened game with the Frederick Keys, 3-0,
to take two out of three from their Northern Divison foes from Maryland. The
game was called in the middle of the seventh inning before Josh Tomlin took
the hill for what would have been his seventh inning of work. Tomlin pitched
a gem, facing the minimum amount of batters through six innings giving up
just one hit. Paul Winterling had a single to lead off the third, and was
caught stealing to end the inning, with Tomlin retiring all of the other 17
batters.
The K-Tribe bats rallied in the fifth behind their All-Star hurler, getting
two hits to lead off the inning from Carlos Rivero and Niuman Romero to put
runners at the corners. After Romero stole second uncontested, Alex Castillo
hit a ball through the legs of Frederick third baseman Billy Rowell, scoring
Rivero easily from third. Romero then scored the second run on a passed ball
with Castillo moving to second. The Kinston catcher came around to score on
a Johnny Drennen double, and the Tribe got all the runs they would need to
lock the Keys.
Tomlin (6-3) won for the first time in seven starts, after recording five
wins out of the bullpen. He struck out five batters and turned in his most
dominating performance of the season.
