Ryne Reynoso Honored with Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Award

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Pelicans’ right-handed starting pitcher Ryne Reynoso has been named as the Carolina League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 26th-June 1st. The 23-year old claimed two victories during the week, defeating the Winston-Salem Warthogs and Frederick Keys.
In his two starts, Reynoso posted a 2-0 record and ERA of 0.75. He turned in 12 total innings, allowing jus one earned run on eight hits, while striking out nine. His masterful week started on Monday, May 26, when he shut down the Warthogs over six innings, permitting just two unearned runs. He did himself one better on Sunday night, allowing a lone run to Frederick as he won for the fifth time, again lasting six innings.
The honor is the fifth weekly league award for the Pelicans this season. RHP Tommy Hanson was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season. Hanson has since been promoted to Mississippi (AA). SS Brandon Hicks and 1B Ernesto Mejia claimed back-to-back Carolina League Player of the Week awards, with Hicks acknowledged in the final week of April, and Mejia getting the nod in the first week of May.
In his first year as a starter, Reynoso has compiled a 5-3 record and sports an ERA of 3.16. In his first professional season in 2007, Reynoso made 40 relief appearances for the Rome Braves and boasted an ERA of 1.98. He also made two scoreless relief appearances for the Pelicans in the final week of the season.A native of Sun Valley, ID, he played his collegiate ball primarily in the outfield for the Boston College Eagles, before signing with the Braves on August 9th, 2006.
