Salt Lake Bees Defeat Colorado Springs Sky Sox 8-5 - AAA, Pacific Coast League
Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 09:21AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Colorado Springs - Salt Lake used a five-run third inning to defeat Colorado Springs 8-5 in front of 6,156 fans at Security Service Field. It was Salt Lake’s 100th victory against the Sky Sox.
Trailing 1-0, the Bees sent every hitter to the plate in their big inning with five of them reaching base via base hit. Adam Morrissey’s two-out, two-run double gave the visiting team a 5-1 lead, capping the scoring for the inning. The third baseman finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Josh Towers (3-4) was hit hard in the loss, allowing 11 of the Bees’ 17 hits during his six innings. He currently leads the PCL with 108 hits allowed.
The Sky Sox nearly rallied for the second straight night, cutting the Bees’ lead to two after Christian Colonel’s two-run home run in the seventh. Rick Guarno’s eighth inning solo shot cut the lead to one run, but the Sky Sox would get no closer as Alberto Arias allowed two more Bees to score in the top of the ninth inning.
Giancarlo Alvarado (4-1) picked up the win after pitching 6.2 innings of four-run baseball. He struck out eight Sky Sox batters, including Matt Holliday twice.
Holliday, playing his first game of a three-game rehab assignment, went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk.
