Connecticut Defenders Get Mad, Take Down Altoona Curve 5-2 - AA, Eastern League
Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 08:58AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - ALTOONA, PA - After winning just one out of their last 10 coming into Saturday’s contest, the Defenders controlled the Curve in a 5-2 win in Altoona.
Disgruntled from their shutout loss a day ago, the Defenders touched the scoreboard first in the second inning as Travis Ishikawa extended his hitting streak to nine with a leadoff double. Simon Klink reached on an error, Carlos Sosa delivered an RBI single, and Adam Witter followed suit with a run scoring hit of his own to make it 2-0 Connecticut.
The Defs continued to pile on in the third as Ishikawa doubled yet again and was brought home on a triple off the bat of Kyle Haines. Sosa came up big again as he doubled Haines to the plate as Connecticut got a little more comfortable as they led 4-0.
Meanwhile, Adam Cowart was dealing on the mound. Through his first five innings of work, Cowart allowed no runs, scattered just four hits, walked none and struck out four.
Altoona got on the board in the sixth inning as Shelby Ford touched home on Jonel Pacheco’s second double of the ball game as the Curve chomped into the 4-1 lead.
Connecticut tacked another one on in the eighth inning on a Baltimore chop single off the pine of Jake Wald to plate Sosa as the Defs grew their lead to 5-1.
The Curve found their way back on the scoreboard in the home half of the ninth inning on an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2. The single run scored in the ninth was all Altoona could muster as they fell by a final of 5-2.
