Hagerstown Suns Defeat Lake County Captains 5-4 - A, South Atlantic League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –HAGERSTOWN, MD – Suns shortstop Dan Lyons sent everyone home with a walk off home run, his fifth dinger of the year, to left centerfield to defeat the Lake County Captains 5-4.  The Hagerstown Suns (29-31) and Lake County Captains (36-25) went back and forth all night before Lyons delivered the final blow.

The Suns got on the board first in the bottom half of the opening frame.  Left fielder Boomer Whiting got aboard with a walk and came all the way around to score before the next hitter, Lyons, even left the batters box.  Whiting stole second and third base before coming home on a wild pitch.

The Captains scored three unanswered runs with one in each of the second, third and fourth inning.  First baseman Jeff Hehr came home on a Doug Pickens sacrifice fly in the second inning.  Left fielder Lucas Montero scored on a sacrifice fly in the third by shortstop Mark Thompson.  In the fourth, Montero brought first baseman Matt Brown around from second.

The Suns’ Tim Pahuta single-handedly cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Pahuta crushed a solo home run, his seventh of the season, over the right-centerfield wall to make it a 3-2 ball game.

Hagerstown tied it up in the bottom of the fifth on a Michael Burgess run scoring double that brought third baseman Stephen King all the way around from first.

The Suns threatened to score in the bottom of the eighth.  Catcher Sean Rooney led the inning off with a single.  Pahuta followed that up with a single to right field and advanced to second as the Captains could not get Rooney going from first to third.  With two runners in scoring position Suns outfielder Mark Gildea hit a fly ball to left field that was caught by Lucas Montero.  Rooney tried to tag up from third on the play, but was thrown out at the plate.

Suns reliever Kyle Gunderson (2-1) came into pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning and pick up the win.  The Captains Dallas Cawiezell (2-3) gave up the Lyons home run and was saddled with the loss.
