Carolina Mudcats Continue Dominance of Jacksonville Suns with 3-1 Victory

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – ZEBULON, N.C. – Cameron Maybin belted a homerun while Manuel Mayorson later contributed two RBI leading the Carolina Mudcats (35-28) to a 3-1 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (28-35) on Sunday afternoon in front of 1,655 at Five County Stadium.

The Mudcats have won the first three games of the current series, and now lead the season series against Jacksonville thirteen games to five.

Carolina starter Willie Glen took the spot of Ryan Tucker, who was originally scheduled to start for the Mudcats and instead started for the Florida Marlins. Tucker picked up a win in his first Major League appearance. Glen shut down the Jacksonville offense over his four innings, allowing one hit and three walks with two strikeouts.

The Mudcats offense gave Glen support right away in the first inning as Marlins top prospect Cameron Maybin belted his 12th homerun of the season during the first inning, his second of the series, a solo blast for a 1-0 lead against Suns starter James McDonald.

That lead expanded in the fifth inning as Manuel Mayorson singled home two runs with two out against McDonald for a 3-0 lead. The runs were unearned for McDonald after an earlier error.

McDonald left after five innings after allowing three runs, one earned run, on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Jacksonville’s offense scored in the seventh inning against Carolina reliever Jarrett Santos as Russell Mitchell and Shane Justis recorded back-to-back doubles to start the frame, Justis’ scoring Mitchell for a 3-1 score.

Carolina relievers Jeff Gogal and Carlos Martinez each pitched an inning to finish the game in favor of the Mudcats.

Jarrett Santos (2-1) picked up the relief win for Carolina while James McDonald (3-2) fell in the loss for Jacksonville. Martinez (3) saved the game for the Mudcats.
