Durham Bulls Defeat Charlotte Knights 3-2 - AAA, IL
Monday, June 9, 2008 at 10:24AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – DURHAM, NC—Nathan Haynes had one hit in three at-bats Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, but that one hit proved to be a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 Bulls victory over the Charlotte Knights.
The Bulls trailed by a score of 2-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning when Fernando Perez led off with a bunt single. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and an Elliot Johnson sacrifice bunt, and he scored on Jon Weber’s sacrifice fly to tie the score. In the bottom of the ninth, it looked like D.J Carrasco (0-1, 4.91), pitching for the first time since coming off the disabled list, would retire the side before Reid Brignac doubled off the right-field wall with two out. The Knights intentionally walked Hector Gimenez to set up the force out, but Haynes instead drove in his second run of the game to seal the Bulls’ victory.
Ben Hendrickson started for Durham and allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two. Nick DeBarr, Kurt Birkins and Juan Salas combined for four innings of scoreless relief. Salas (3-2, 3.00) earned the win and struck out four over two perfect innings.
