Portland Beavers Beat Sacramento River Cats 4-3 - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – WEST SACRAMENTO, CA – Josh Geer worked a season-high eight innings and notched his fifth consecutive quality start to help the Portland Beavers gain a split in their series with the Sacramento River Cats with a 4-3 victory Sunday at Raley Field.

Brian Myrow’s RBI single in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie after the teams swapped earlier leads, giving the Beavers (31-30) a 2-2 split in their series with Sacramento (39-24).

Geer (5-6) struck out six and held the River Cats to three runs, seven hits and one walk over the first eight innings, the longest outing for a Portland starter since Mike Thompson went eight frames on July 27, 2007.

Edwin Moreno pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to log his second save with Portland.

Brett Dowdy was 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored for the Beavers, whose 12-game road trip continues Monday night when they open a four-game series at Las Vegas.

Brooks Conrad was 2-for-4 with two solo home runs for the River Cats, who have lost two games in a row for just the third time in the last month.

Gio Gonzalez (2-4), considered the top pitching prospect of the Oakland Athletics, gave up five hits, five walks and four runs (2 earned) over his six innings to take the loss.

The Beavers, who were limited to six hits, went up 2-1 in the top of the third when Matt Antonelli doubled in a run and Vincent Sinisi scored from third on Tom King’s RBI groundout.

Ryan Sweeney’s RBI single knotted things at 2-2 in the bottom of the third before Chip Ambres reached on a fourth-inning, leadoff double and eventually scored when Sinisi lifted a sac fly to left.

Conrad again tied it in the fourth by clubbing his second home run off Geer.
