Mobile BayBears Top Montgomery Biscuits 5-1 - AA, Southern League
Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 08:30AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A chance for a three-game winning streak was thwarted by the Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday as the BayBears fell 5-1 at Riverwalk Stadium.
After playing consecutive extra-inning ballgames, the BayBears (38-54, 9-13) only had nine go in the books on Tuesday, but it was a quiet nine for the Mobile offense. Cyle Hankerd’s RBI single in the top of the sixth brought home Gerardo Parra, but that was the only tally for the BayBears despite seven hits off starting pitcher Wade Davis (9-6).
Brooks Brown (5-10) was sound on the hill for the BayBears but once again was the victim of a lack of run support. Brown worked five frames and surrendered just two runs (one earned) on three hits. John Jaso’s tater in the bottom of the first put the Biscuits (44-48, 10-12) on the board while an RBI single by Gaby Martinez gave Montgomery a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh, the Biscuits blew the game open against Jason Urquidez in his BayBear debut. After a pair of walks, Urquidez coughed up back-to-back doubles to Chris Nowak and Martinez which plated three runs. Roger Deago and Ryan Reid combined for three scoreless innings out of the Montgomery bullpen to close the ballgame.
Game three of the series between the BayBears and Biscuits will be under way at 7:05 on Thursday night as the BayBears send Tony Barnette (4-7, 4.58) to the mound against left-hander Jason Cromer (2-2, 3.82). The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, July 16 to battle the Chattanooga Lookouts at 7:05 p.m. Call for tickets at (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
